Testimonials

  • What areas do you cover

We cover all of  Duns and its surrounds

Duns the county town in Berwickshire, Scotland Borders. With its large market square, it retains the atmosphere of an old Scottish town.

Duns's wealth and importance was based on its thriving livestock marketplace. As with many Border settlements, it had a turbulent past, which is still evident in and around the town.

Duns Castle's grounds, which are now a bird sanctuary and park, were redeveloped around a 14th century peel tower that Robert the Bruce gave to Randolph, Earl de Moray in 1820. The Greenknowe Tower is located nearby. In Ellemford, James IV met his commanders just before the devastating Battle of Flodden (1513).

The hill of Duns Law rises 700 feet above sea level and offers spectacular views of the Merse as well as the rich, low-lying farmlands that run out to the coast.

Manderston House, which gives a fascinating insight into life 'upstairs and downstairs', is also worth a visit in Duns. The Jim Clark Museum, a centre dedicated to the late Formula 1 champion racing driver, is also worth a visit.

Duns is also known to be the probable birthplace of John Duns Scotus (the great medieval philosopher who taught at Paris' University of Paris in the 14th century). In the park is a bronze statue of Duns Schotus.
